WEEK 8 Monday, October 24th 2022 C: 3CT1; 3AT2; 3BT3 Period: 29 UNIT 5: MY HOBBIES Lesson 1 (4,5,6) A. OBJECTIVES: - By the end of the lesson, Ss will be able to: 1. Language focus: - Listen to and understand four communicative contexts in which pupils ask and answer questions about hobbies. - Read and match the target sentence patterns with pictures. - Review vocabulary related to the topic "Hobbies" by playing the game Find the hobby. - Vocabulary: Review - Sentense pattner: Review 2. Skills: Speaking, listening, reading and writing. 3. Quality/Attitude: - Kindness: Help partners to complete learning tasks. - Honesty: Tell the truth about feelings and emotions. - Diligence: Complete learning tasks. 4. Competence: - Critical Thinking: self-introduce - Co-operation: ready to help friends in pair work/ group work. - Self-control and independent learning: perform listening tasks. B. PROCEDURE: I. Warm up. Game: Matching game *Aims: to create a friendly and active atmosphere in the class to beginning the lesson. *Procedure: - Write 4 new words on the board and asks Ss to read (whole class). - Ask 4 Ss to come to the board and write their hobbies in the pieces of paper and keep them in secret. - Ask 1 Ss to come to the board and guess their hobbies written in the paper (He has to write the answers in the small pieces of paper and stick to each 4 Ss. - Ask the Ss on the board to ask the question to find out the answers and give him or her point if correct (repeat the activities depending the time). - Let’s open your book page 35 and look at Unit 5, Lesson 1 (4,5,6) II. Listen and number. *Aims: Ss will be able to listen to and understand four communicative contexts in which pupils ask and answer questions about hobbies *Procedure: - Elicit the names of the characters in each picture and ask + How many pictures/numbers are there? + What can you see in each picture? - Point at the pictures respectively to explain the context and how to do the task. - Ask Ss to guess the answers and writes Ss’guessing on the board. - Play the recording for Ss listen. - Play the recording again for pupils to do the task. - Get Ss to swap books with their partners. - Play the recording again to check their answers together as a class. - Write the correct answers on the board. III. Look, match and read. *Aims: Ss will be able to read and match the target sentence patterns with pictures. *Procedure: - Have pupils look at the pictures. Have them identify the characters in the pictures. - Have Ss look at the first picture and incomplete sentence. - Model with sentence 1 - Ask Ss to read and match. When Ss answer correctly. - Tell them to draw a line to match the two sentence halves - Have Ss work in groups and match the sentence 2, 3 and 4. - Write the correct answers on the board. - Invite pairs of pupils to stand up and read the matched instructions aloud. - Give feedbacks. Let’s play. *Aims: Ss will be able to review vocabulary related to the topic "Hobbies" by playing the game Find the hobby. *Procedure: - Tell Ss the goal of the game and how to play it. Four Ss hold different flash cards - Invite four Ss to the front of the class to demonstrate how to play the game. - T shouts out "swimming", the Ss with the swimming flash card steps up and shows his / her flash card to the whole class. - Repeat the procedure with other flash cards. If a Ss fails to show up his / her flashcard or shows up the wrong flash card, he / she is "out" of the game. *Outcome: Pupils can review vocabulary related to the topic "Hobbies" by playing the game Find the hobby. V. Fun corner and wrap-up. *Aims: Ss will be able consolidate and wrap up the content of the lesson by game. *Procedure: Game: Guessing and choosing - T shows 4 pictures of hobbies and calls 4 pupils to come to the board and choose. - T asks 4 pupils to come to the board and have each pupil choose 1 picture of a hobby and keep them in secret by covering them. - Each of the other pupils will choose one of the given hobbies, write down on their small boards and keep their ideas a secret. - The pupils on the board will show their pictures in turn. - When the teacher says the word of the pictures shown on the board, the pupils having the same hobbies will raise their boards or raise their hands. The pupils on the board will Wrap-up - Ask Ss to answer the following questions: + What have you learnt from the lesson today? +What are the core values of the lesson? Language focus: - Understand and correctly repeat the sentences in two communicative contexts (pictures) focusing on asking and answering about hobbies. - Correctly say the words and use What's your hobby? – I like to ask and answer questions about someone's hobby. - Enhance the correct use of What's your hobby? – I like ... to ask and answer questions about someone's hobby. - Vocabulary: run, paint, walk, cook, like - Sentense pattner: A: What's your hobby? B: I like ... 2. Skills: Listening, writing and speaking. 3. Quality/Attitude: - Kindness: Help partners to complete learning tasks. - Honesty: tell the truth about feelings and emotions - Diligence: complete learning tasks 4. Game: interview *Aims: to create a friendly and active atmosphere in the class to beginning the lesson. *Procedure: - Greet the class and encourage pupils to respond. - Invite some pairs of pupils to ask and answer about hobbies using What's your hobby? – It's _____. in front of the class. - Let’s open your book page 36 and look at Unit 5, Lesson 2 (1,2,3) II. Vocabulary. *Aims: Ss will be able to know the vocabulary in front of starting the new lesson. *Procedure: - T elicits the new words. + run- running: chạy (mime) + paint- painting: tô màu (mime) + walk- walking: đi bộ (mime) + cook- cooking: nấu ăn (mine) + like: thích (situation) - Introduce the new words according to the 3-2-3 rule. - T writes the words on the board. Correct their pronunciation where necessary. - Have Ss work in pair to practice the diaguage - Invite a few pairs to the front of the class to read aloud. Correct pronunciation if necessary. - Draw their attention to the question What’s your hobby? and the answers I like cooking. and I like walking. Listen, point and say. *Aims: Ss will be able to correctly say the words and use What's your hobby? – I like . to ask and answer questions about someone's hobby. *Procedure: - Elicit from the dialogue in part 1, teacher introduces new structure for Ss. + Model sentences: A: What’s your hobby? B: I like cooking - Explain, model and meaning. - Have Ss repeat the model sentences, T-Ss, Ss- Ss (open pairs/ close pairs) - Have pupils look at the pictures and elicit the names of the characters. - Play the recording for Ss to listen and repeat the model. - Repeat again all the pictures and model sentences after teacher. - Give pupils time to work in pairs - Invite a few pairs to point at the pictures and say the questions and answers in front of the class. *Outcome: Pupils can correctly say the words and use What's your hobby? – I like _____. to ask and answer questions about someone's hobby. Let’s talk. *Aims: Ss will be able to enhance the correct use of What's your hobby? – I like . to ask and answer questions about someone's hobby *Procedure: - T asks Ss to guess each character and what the children say. + What can you see in the picture? +Who are they? +Where are they? +What are they doing? - T fills the gaps and writes the sentences on the board. - T models - Put pupils into groups of four and encourage them to greet and introduce someone. Go around the class to offer support. - Encourage pupils to give more instructions using the words that they have learnt (e.g. nose, face, ear, ...). - Invite some groups to the front of the class to perform their instructions. Fun corner and wrap-up. *Aims: Ss will be able consolidate and wrap up the content of the lesson by game. *Procedure: Game: Lucky numbers - T lets pupils review the pictures of hobbies. - T divides the class into 2 teams. - Pupils in 2 teams take turns to open the boxes and answer the questions: What’s your hobby? (T can show pictures/ flash cards of hobbies and ask pupils to say the hobbies out loud). - T clicks on the box to reveal the points beneath. - The team with the most points is the winner. (Please use the ppt slides provided for reference.) Wrap-up. - Ask Ss to answer the following questions: + What have you learnt from the lesson today? + What are the core values of the lesson? (if the teacher can take from the lesson). - Review the vocabulary and model sentences. - Praises some Ss who are hardworking / active/ good . as well as encourage others to try more. VII. Language focus: - Listen to and understand two communicative contexts in which pupils discuss different hobbies. - Complete four target sentences with the help of picture cues. - Sing the song My hobby with the correct pronunciation and melody - Vocabulary: Review - Sentense pattner: Review 2. Skills: Speaking, listening, reading and writing. 3. Quality/Attitude: - Kindness: Help partners to complete learning tasks. - Honesty: Tell the truth about feelings and emotions. - Diligence: Complete learning tasks. 4. Competence: - Critical Thinking: self-introduce - Co-operation: ready to help friends in pair work/ group work. - Self-control and independent learning: perform listening tasks. B. Have them stand in two lines. - Place some cards on the board. - Have four students come to the board to face off. - Call out a word, ex: cooking, and have Ss run to the board then slap the picture and repeat the word. - The winner is the student who slaps the picture at first. - Let’s open your book page 37 and look at Unit 5, Lesson 2 (4,5,6) II. Game: Matching - T divides the class into 2 teams. - Pupils in 2 teams take turns to open the boxes to match the questions and answers to their pictures (open: click the numbers; close: click the red signs). - Pupils of each team will get points if their matching is correct. - Review hobbies: painting, cooking, running, walking, singing and swimming. IV. Let’s chant To say the chant with the correct rhythm and pronunciation. The lyrics and recording of the chant Pupils can say the chant with the correct rhythm and pronunciation. Step 1: Draw pupils’ attention to the lyrics of the chant. Check comprehension. Step 2: Play the recording all the way through. Encourage pupils to listen carefully to the rhythm and pronunciation. Draw pupils' attention to the sounds of the consonants p and r. Step 3: Play the recording line by line for pupils to listen and repeat. Correct their pronunciation where necessary. Step 4: Play the recording all the way through for pupils to say the chant. Draw their attention to the consonant sounds /p/ and /r/ in the words painting and running. Extension: Divide the class into two or more groups to take turns to listen to and repeat the chant, while the rest of the class claps along. V. Adjustment after the lesson. (If have)
