Lesson Plan (grade 11 – advanced) Period : 23 Preparation date : 22/10/2007 Unit : 3 Lesson : writing (cont) Aims : - By the end of the lesson, the students are able to write a letter of invitation - By the end of the lesson, the students are able to write a letter of acceptance or refusal. Teaching aids: - textbook - handouts - Sheets of paper - chalk and board Techniques : writing-based Procedures : State/time Teacher’s and students’ activities Blackboard Materials 1. warm-up (7’) Checking the previous lesson - write on the board parts of a letter which are ordered randomly - call on a St to rearrange in order. - check the answer Transition: last time we studied components of and a letter of invitation / refusal / acceptance ; and words and phrases for writing a letter. Today we’ll how to write a complete letter. - write down on the board: 1 request for a reply 2. invitation 3. opening / greeting 4. closing and ending 5. reason for event 6. venue, date & time Unit3: Writing a Letter of Invitation and of Reply (cont) - s 2. Pre- writing (10’) Activity 1: Teaching new words again - use pictures and explanations to present some new words - Read the words one by one and ask Sts to repeat. - highly (adv) : cao - appreciated (adj): cam kich, danh gia cao - affectionately (adv) : chan thanh - look forward to : - invite (v) : moi - invitation (n) : loi moi Chalk and board 3. while-writing (20’) writing letters - put Ss into pairs A, B, and C. - Tell pairs A to write a letter of invitation based on the situation given in Task c, p42 ( you may want to give them a certain place and time to make it consistent in all letters, e.g. “ on Saturday next week, at your house, at 7 pm.” - Tell pairs B to write a letter of reply, accepting the invitation - Tell pairs C to write a letter of reply, refusing the invitation. - go around to control and give help if necessary. - when they have finished, collect Ss’ writing for correcting later. Post-writing (10’) Listening and recognizing - Read some more letters, one by one, and ask Ss to listen and recognize where they are invitation, acceptance of refusal. - Ask Ss what helps them know which is which to see if they can recognize the target language used. Ss’ writing 5. Homework (1’) - Ask Sts to write one more letter of invitation.
