Unit 15 : Lesson : listening
I. Aims :
- By the end of the lesson, the students are able to listen for specific information
- By the end of the lesson, the students will know more about the Taj Mahal.
II. Lexical items :
- love at the first sight - battle - emperor
- mourn - beyond description - palace
III. Structures :
-A traditional cake is often served with candles that are to be blown .
-If birthdays were perfectly random in their distribution across the year, then there would be a birthday celebration every 0,005 second.

- textbook - CD player - Sheet of paper
- chalk - cards - Handouts
V. Techniques :
- skill-based ( listening, speaking)

Games: question chain
- Put SS into groups, Red and White
- each member of the groups has to come to the teacher and answer a question. If the correct answer is given, the student receives a phrase or a word (card) from the teacher. In case of failure, another member from the same group has to come to the teacher and answer that question again.
- play continues until al the question are answered.
- when all the members have got their cards they have to unscramble these cards to make a meaningful sentences
- ask the groups to sick their sentences up on the board
- go over the answers with the whole class
- the first group to work out the correct sentence is the winner
- Transition:
In today’s listening section, we‘ll learn more about The Taj Mahal.

Teaching new words:
-Pre-teach the words below though explanations.
-Read aloud the following explanations.
1.happen or appear with sth else
2.show respect for sth
3. make detailed arrangements for sth you want to do
4. done , chosen, etc. without sb thinking or deciding in advance what is going to happen
5.having a taste that is salty , not sweet
-have SS listen and number the correct words in the order they hear
-Put an example of the task on the board.
- Call on some SS to write up the answers on the board
- Go over the answers with the whole class.

Activity 1:True - false(Task b, p38)
- Ask Sts to read though the statements and keep in mind which information they need to look for.
-Have SS listen to the first recoding and decide whether each statement is true (T) or false (F )
- call on Sts to give the answers and elicit explanations for their choices
- Ask Sts to listen the recoding again .
Activity 2: Wh- question (Task c, p38)
-Have SS read though the questions and decide which information they need to look for.
-Have SS listen to the second recoding and answer the tow questions
- Assign tow SS to write the answer on the board.

Speaking : Information-gap
- Put SS into pairs .Student A is given a text on birthday celebrations in some place(s) and student B its gapped version
-Within pairs, SS ask each other questions to fill in the gaps.
-In turn student B is given a different text and student A its gapped version.
-Pairs continue in the same way
-The teacher moves around the class and intervenes only where necessary.
Vocabulary review
- tell Sts to learn the new words and make some sentences with them,
describing a certain person
Card 1- Jack and card 2 – Sinh are delivered out Sts.
