WEEK 19 Monday, January 18th 2021 S: 5AT4; C: 5BT2 Period 73 UNIT 11: WHAT’S THE MATTER WITH YOU? Lesson 2: (1,2,3) A. Objectives: - By the end of the lesson, Ss will be able to give and respond to advivce to common health problems - Language focus: + Vocabularies: dentist, take a rest, carry, sweet... + Sentence patterns: You should/shouldn’t ... Yes, I will./OK, I won’t. - Practice skill: Listening, speaking - Resources: Student’s book, pictures, tape B. Procedure. I. Warm up: sing - Have Ss sing a song they have learnt. II. Look, Listen and repeat. - Tell pupils that they are going to read a story. Check their comprehension by pointing at each pictureto elicit their answer to the questions. - Have Ss to look at four pictures to discuss the context in which the language is used and ask them questions such as: Who are they? What are they talking about? - Play the recording a few times for Ss to listen and repeat. Do choral and individual repetition, poiting to the characters speaking. Ask a few pairs to role- play the conversation. - Write model sentence on the board. A: You should/shouldn’t ... B: Yes, I will./OK, I won’t. - Ss listen and repeat again. (T – Ss, Ss –T, Ss – Ss, open pairs – close pairs) III. Point and say. - Tell Ss that they are going to practise giving and respond to advivce to common health problems. - Have Ss look at the pictures to understand how the language is used. - Teach some vocabulary: dentist, take a rest, carry, sweet - Ask Ss to listen and repeat more times the phrases chorally and individually. Repeat the same produce with the rest of pictures. - Ss work in pairs. Call some pairs practice in front of the class. - Check Ss’ mistake when necessary. - Write the questions and answer on the board and Ss to repeat again. Ex: A: You should/shouldn’t ... B: Yes, I will./OK, I won’t. IV. Let’s talk. - Tell Ss that they are going to practise asking and answering questions: - Do the task with two Ss. Put questions and answers on the board and do choral and individual repetition. - Ask them to work in pairs to prepare exchanges based on the questions provided. - Call on a few pairs to act out the dialogue in front of the class. Correct pronunciation, if necessary. Ex: A: I have a/an . B: You should/shouldn’t ... A: Yes, I will./OK, I won’t. V. Reinforcement. * Do Exercise - Have Ss do exercise D of unit 11 in workbook - T corrects and feedback VI. Homelink. - Learn by heart vocabulary and structure Monday, January 18th 2021 C: 5AT1; 5BT3 Period 74 UNIT 11: WHAT’S THE MATTER WITH YOU? Lesson 2: 4,5,6) A. Objectives: - By the end of the lesson, Ss will be able to give and respond to advivce to common health problems - Language focus: + Vocabularies: review + Sentence patterns: review - Practice skill: Listening, writing. - Resources: Student’s book, posters, pictures . B. Procedure. I. Warm up. * Chatting Ex: - Ss answer. II. Listen and number. - Tell Ss that they are going to listen and number the pictures - Ask Ss to look at the pictures and help them to identify the meanings of the symbols in the pictures. - Play the recording more than one for Ss to listen and complete the sentences. Do the task and check their answer. - Get Ss to swap their answers before you check as a class. - T gives feedback. *Answer: 1/ should go to the doctor 2/ shouldn’t go to school 3/ shouldn’t eat ice cream 4/ shouldn’t carry heavy things. III. Write about you. - Tell Ss that they are going to read and fill the gaps with the answers. - Get Ss to read the questions and choose the best answer. - Give them time to do the task independently.Go around and offer help, if necessary. - Get them to swap their answers before checking as a class. - Call some Ss to read aloud the complete sentences. * Key: 1. matter 2 has 3 doctor 4 stomach 5 rest IV. Let’s play. - Tell Ss that they are going to play What’s matter with you? - T explains how the game is played . - Give Ss time to do the game. Go around and offer help, if necessary. - Call some Ss to read aloud the question and put them on the board. - Invite some pairs to practise asking and answering the questions. T gives feedback V. Reinforcement. * Do Exercise. - Have Ss do exercise E of unit 11 in workbook - T corrects and feedback VI. Homelink. - Learn by heart vocabulary and structure. Thursday, January 21th 2021 S: 5AT3; 5BT4 Period 75 UNIT 11: WHAT’S THE MATTER WITH YOU? Lesson 3: (1,2,3) A. Objectives: - By the end of the lesson, Ss will be able to say questions and answers with the correct intonation. Listen and read for specific information - Language focus: + Stress: sentences + Vocabularies: Review + Sentence patterns: What’s the matter with you? I have a headache. - Practice skill: Listening, writing and speaking chant. - Resources: Student’s book, posters, pictures and tape. B. Procedures. I. Warm up: Play bingo game - The class play: bingo game with toothache, earache, sore throat, stomach ache, dentist, fever.... Finally, pupils make sentences with the words used in the game. II. Listen and repeat. - Tell Ss that they are going to practise saying questions and answers with the correct sentence stress - Put the sentences on the board. Play the recording and ask Ss to repeat a few times. - Play the recording a few times and let Ss say the words and phrases, paying attention to the target sounds. - Do choral and individual repetition of the sounds. Call Ss repeat again. III. Listen and circle a or b. Then ask and answer. - Tell Ss that they are going to listen to four sentences and underline the stressed words. - Play the recording more than once for Ss listen and circle the answers. - Give Ss time to write the words in the gaps independently. - Have them swap their answers before checking as a class. - Ask Ss to read the sentences aloud. Key: 1.b 2.b 3. a 4. a IV. Let’s chant. - Tell Ss that they are going to do the chant: What’s the matter with you? - Have Ss to read the chant and check comprehension - Play the recording more than once for Ss to listen. Ss do choral and individual repetition. - Show them how to chant and actions. Divide the class into three groups, each group singing one of the chant. - Call some pairs to the front of class to chant and do actions. The rest of the class claps the syllables. V. Reinforcement. * Do Exercise. - Have Ss do exercise A of unit 11 in workbook - T corrects and feedback VI. Homelink. - Learn by heart vocab & structure Friday, January 22th 2021 S: 5AT1; 5BT2 Period 76 UNIT 11: WHAT’S THE MATTER WITH YOU? Lesson 1: (4,5,6) A. Objectives: - By the end of the lesson, Ss will be able to practice reading and writing bout their advice. - Language focus: + Vocabularies: review + Sentence patterns: review - Practice skill: Reading, writing, speaking . - Resources: Student’s book, posters, pictures, tape. B. Procedure. I. Warm up. Let’s chant: What’s the matter with you? - Whose class chant II. Read and match. Then say. - Tell Ss that they are going to read the text and match the sentence halves. - Ask Ss look at and read sentences first and then read the text and focus on the information they need to do the task. Ss work in pairs. - Give time to do the task independently. - Have them swap their answers before checking as a class. Key: 1F 2D 3 E 4 A 5 C 6 B III. Write about advice. - Tell Ss that they are going to write bout some advice for the characters. Have Ss read the informatons first, then write the answering. - Have them work in pairs to discuss what they are going to write. - Give time to do the task independently. - Have them swap their answers before checking as a class. - Call some Ss to read their writing aloud. Key: Suggested answers: 1. Tony should brush his teeth after meals. He shouldn’t eat ice cream. 2. Quan should keep warm. He shouldn’t go out. 3. Phong should eat healthy foods. He shouldn’t eat too much chocolate. 4. Phong should keep warm. He shouldn’t talk too much or eat ice cream. IV. Project. - Tell Ss that they are going to talk about two common health problems and give advice. - Ask them to work in groups of three to discuss and selectthree sports. - Give time limit for them to do the task. - Ss report the results of their interviews to the class. V. Colour the stars. - Have Ss read the statements and check their comprehension. - Give them time to colour the stars and invite a few pupils to read the statements aloud. - Give further support to Ss who find it difficult to achieve certain objectives. (- If there is not enough time, ask Ss to do it as homework.) VI. Reinforcement. * Do Exercise - Have Ss do exercise F of unit 11 in workbook - T corrects and feedback. VII. Homelink. - Learn by heart vocab & structure
