WEEK 3 Monday, September 27th 2021 S: 4AT1; 4BT2; 4CT3 Period: 5 UNIT 2: I’M FROM JAPAN Lesson 1 (1,2) STAGE 1: DESIRED OBJECTIVES/ OUTCOMES A. Objectives - By the end of the lesson, sts will be able to: 1. Knowledge - Ask and answer question about one's nationality. - Sentence Patterns: What nationality are you? − I’m ____. - Vocabulary: nationality, Japanese, Vietnamese, English, Australian, Malaysian, American, English 2. Skills - Listening and speaking. 3. Attitudes/ Quality - Ss love their countries. 4. Forming competence - Co- operation - Self- study - Using language to solve learning tasks B. Language Focus * Key terms - Vocabulary: Japan, England, America, Australia, Malaysia. * Key grammatical structures The sentence patterns: Where are you from? I’m from Japan. C. Instructional Resources - Textbook: Tiếng Anh 4: Student’s book, handmade puppets, robot-teacher, photographs of greeting. - Audio track: Unit 2- Lesson 1, activity 1,2,3 page 12; Cards - Song: Travel song - Computer & Projector STAGE 2: LEARNING EXPERIENCES / LEARNING PLAN * Warm-up - Ask sts to sing the chant “hello, friends” - Lead in the new lesson. Activity 1: Language input (Act 1: Look, listen and repeat.) - Set the sense. - Give instruction. - Play the recording all the way through. - Replay the recording for sts listen and repeat. - Divide class into 2 groups and ask them to play roles. - Ask sts to do further practice in pairs. - Check to make sure that sts can repeat and understand the dialogue by going through some words: Nice work!, Japan. Activity 2: Controlled and guided practice Task 2: Controlled practice (Act 2: Point and say.) - Ask sts to look at the pictures a, b, c and d and introduce some names of countries: Malaysia, America, Australia, England. - Use handmade puppets to teach. - Explain the pattern: Where are you from? I’m from Japan - Model the structure: T-sts; sts-T; S1-S2 - Have sts to look at the pictures and greet and ask where you are from in pairs. - Move around to offer helps. - Call on some pairs to perform the task. Task 3: Guided practice (Let’s talk) - Ask Ss to work in pair and introduce themself then ask and answer about: where are you from?” - Calls some pair practice in front of class. - Check pronunciation. - Give a model first and then ask students to do the activity in groups of 4. Model: Where are you from? I’m from Japan Task 4. Listen and tick - Have pupils look at pictures on page 13 of the Student Book. Elicit the identification of the characters in the pictures and the characters’ words. Tell pupils that they are going to listen to the recording and tick the pictures they hear. - Play the recording 2 times. - Play the recording again pupils check their answers. T give the answer: - Ask some questions to ensure pupils’ comprehension of the listening text. Activity 3: Wrap-up & Assignments - Ask students to answer the following questions: Where are you from? Knowledge: - Ask and answer questions about how to spell one's name. - Sentence Patterns: How do you spell your name? − (N A M). - Vocabulary: the alphabet, how, do you, and spell 2. Skills. - Listening and speaking. 3. Attitude/ Quality: - Ss confident in communicate with their friends. - Ss love English, friends and teacher. 4. Forming competence: - Ss know ask and answer questions about how to spell one's name. - Practice with their friends. B. Language Focus * Key terms - Vocabulary: Japanese, Vietnamese, English, Australian, Malaysian. * Key grammatical structures The sentence patterns: What nationality are you? I’m from Vietnamese. C. Instructional Resources - Textbook: Tiếng Anh 4: Student’s book, handmade puppets, robot-teacher. CDs player, stereo. - Audio track: Unit 2- Lesson 2, activity1, 2, 3 page 13; Cards - Computer & Projector * Warm-up Vietnam America * Game: Brainstorming Japan Country Australia Activity 1: Language input Task 1: Look, listen and repeat - Ask sts to look at the pictures on page 14. - Run through. - Give instruction. - Play the recording all the way through for sts to listen, and point to the appropriate line in their books. - Play the recording again for sts to repeat the lines in the speech bubbles. Repeat the step a few times. - Practice with sts. - Divide the class into 2 groups to play a role. - Ask sts to practice in pairs. - Go around and check sts to be able to repeat and understand the dialogue. Activity2: Controlled and guided practice. Point and say - Have pupils look at pictures. - Run through. - Use flashcards to teach the question and answer in the speech bubbles. Have sts repeat the phrases a few times. What nationality are you? I’m Japanese. - Give instruction. - Point to each character in the picture and elicit the name and the words to fill the gaps. - Write the whole sentences on the board. - Have sts to repeat the sentences a few times. - Repeat the procedure with the second picture. - Ask sts work in pairs. - Call some pairs to practice in front of the class. - Check sts’ mistakes when necessary. - Make a few questions to check pupils’ comprehension of the language. - Have the whole class repeat all the phrases in chorus to reinforce their pronunciation. Task 3: Let’s talk - Run through. - Give instruction. - Draw the sts’ attention to the pictures and elicit the language that the characters might use. - Ask sts to practice as the model. - Get sts to work in pairs. - Call a few pairs to practice in front of the class. - Check sts’ pronunciation. Activity 3: Wrap-up & Assignments - Ask Ss to walk around the class ask their friends spell their names. - Summary the lesson - Tell pupils to read the part 1 again. - Do exercises in workbook, learn by heart the new words and the pattern. * Comment . Friday, Octorber 01rd 2021 S: 4BT1; 4CT2; 4AT3 Period: 5 UNIT 2: I’M FROM JAPAN Lesson 3 (1,2,3) STAGE 1: DESIRED OBJECTIVES/ OUTCOMES A. Objectives - By the end of the lesson, sts will be able to: 1. Knowledge - Pronounce the sounds of the letters j and v in the words Japan and Vietnamese respectively. - Listen and tick the correct words. Then say the words aloud. - Say the chant What nationality are you? - Sentence Patterns: Revision - Vocabulary: Revision 2. Skills: Listening and speaking. 3. Attitudes/ Quality - Ss love their countries. - To help Ss know how to make friends. 4. Forming competence - Co- operation - Self- study - Ss know how to greet and respond to greeting. - Communicate English with friends and teacher well B. Language Focus * Key terms - Vocabulary: Review * Key grammatical structures - Sentence Patterns: C. Instructional Resources - Textbook: Tiếng Anh 4: Student’s book, handmade puppets, robot-teacher, CDs player, stereo. - Audio track: Unit 2- Lesson 3, activity1,2,3 page 16; Cards * Warm-up - Let sts play the game: “Find someone who” on page 14. - Lead in the new lesson. Activity 1: Presentation (Listen and repeat) - Have sts to open the book page 16, draw their attention to the letters colored differently in the words Japan and Vietnamese. - Produce the sound of the letter J and V - Have sts repeat the focused sounds a few times. - Play the recording twice and ask Ss to repeat - Monitor the activity and offer help when necessary/ correct typical pronunciation errors. - Call on someone to pronounce. - Have the whole class recite the chant to reinforce their pronunciation. Activity 2: Listening practice (Listen and tick. Then say aloud) - Ask sts to turn to Page 16 of the Student Book. - Give instruction. - Play the tape twice. - Ask them to listen and write the answers. - Call someone to write on the board, check sts’ notebook. - Check and correct mistakes. - Ask Ss to say aloud these words. Activity 3: Chant practice (Let’s chant) - Show the chart of the chant “What nationality are you?” - Play the tape a few times. - Ask sts to read aloud each line in the song and clap their hands. - Ask them to listen again and repeat. - Have sts practice the chant in pairs. - Call each group, then pairs to perform. - Correct and comment. - Play the tape once to reinforce their pronunciation. Activity 4: Wrap-up & Assignments - Remind students to do exercises in the workbook and to prepare for the next lesson (Unit 2, Lesson 3- Activities 4-5-6 on page 13,15, 17).
