A. Objectives:
- By the end of the lesson, Ss will be able to:

C. PROCEDURE:
I. Warm up.
Game: What’s missing
*Aims: to create a friendly and active atmosphere in the class to beginning
the lesson.
*Procedure:
- Divide the class into 2 teams. Have pupils look at the screen with
numbers from 1 to 10.
- Then hide 1 number each time and have the teams raise their hands to
answer.
- Give points for each correct answer.
- Let’s open your book page 19 and look at Unit 2, Lesson 2 (4,5,6) II. Listen and number.
*Aims: Ss will be able to listen to and understand four communicative
contexts in which pupils ask and answer questions about ages.
*Procedure:
- Draw pupils’ attention to the pictures. Elicit the names of the characters in
each picture. Tell them about this activity and show them how to do the task.
- Have Ss guess the answers before listen.
- Play the recording for the first conversation. Elicit the answer and give
feedback. Put number 1 in the box of Picture d. Play the recording again for
pupils to check the answer.
- Play the recording all the way through for pupils to do the task with the
rest of pictures a, b, c, d
- Play the recording again for pupils to check their answers.
- Tell pupils to swap books with a partner, then check answers together as a
class. Say the correct answer again for pupils to correct their answers.
- Play the recording all the way through for pupils to double-check all the
answers.
- If time allows, play the recording, sentence by sentence, for the class to
listen and repeat in chorus

*Outcome: Ss can listen to and understand four communicative contexts in
which pupils ask and answer questions about ages.
III. Look, complete and read.
*Aims: Ss will be able to complete three gapped dialogues with the help of
picture cues.
*Procedure:
- Have pupils look at the pictures. Have them identify the characters in the
two pictures.
- Have pupils look at the two incomplete exchanges. Draw their attention to
the missing words in the sentences.
- Model with Picture 1. Have pupils look at the dialogue. Ask them what is
missing in the answer. Then have them look at the picture and identify the
character’s name. Then have them complete the gap
Follow the same procedure with Pictures 2 and 3. Draw the pupils’
attention to the two gaps in the dialogue 3.
- Have pupils complete the exchanges individually and ask a few pairs to
read them aloud.
Key: 1. seven 2. eight years 3. you; nine years’ old
*Outcome: Ss can complete three gapped dialogues with the help of picture
cues.
IV. Let’s sing. *Aims: Ss will be able to sing the song How old are you? with the correct
pronunciation and melody.
*Procedure:
- Introduce the title and lyrics of the song: “How old are you?” song.
- Play the recording for Ss to listen to the whole song.
+ Have them repeat the title and lyrics line by line.
- Play the recording all the way through for Ss to listen to pronunciation
and melody of the song.
- Play the recording line by line for Ss to listen, repeat
- Play the recording for Ss to sing and do actions.
- Ask Ss to practice singing and doing actions in pairs or groups.
- Invite groups to the front of the classroom to perform the song
*Outcome: Ss can sing the song How old are you? with the correct
pronunciation and melody.
V. Fun corner and wrap-up:
*Aims: Ss will be able consolidate and wrap up the content of the lesson by
game.
*Procedure:
- Ask Ss to answer the following questions:
+ What have you learnt from the lesson today?
+What are the core values of the lesson? (if the teacher can take from the
lesson).
- Review the vocabulary and model sentences.
Game: Pass the ball
- Divide the class into 2 teams.
- Each team has 1 sticky ball.
- Play the music. Have pupils in each team take turns to pass the ball. When
the music ends, 3 students who are keeping the balls will stand up and say their
names, using the sentence model.
VI. Home-link.
- Have Ss learn by heart vocabulary, structure and do exercise part D of
Unit 2 in workbook.
- Prepare the next lesson: Unit 2-Lesson 3: 1,2,3 on page 20)

- Correctly pronounce the sounds of the letters m and n in isolation, in the
words Mary and Nam, and in the sentences I’m Mary and My name’s Nam;
- Use the words what, your, name, my, how old, years old in relation to the
topic “Our names”;
- Vocabulary: letter m and n
- Sentense pattner: Review
2. Skills: Listening, writing and speaking.
3. Quality/Attitude:
- Kindness: Help partners to complete learning tasks.
- Honesty: tell the truth about feelings and emotions
4. Competence:
- Co-operation: ready to help friends in pair work/ group work.

C. PROCEDURE:
I. Warm up.
Game: Lucky number
- Review the previous lesson by having the class play the game Lucky
number, using the model sentences: What’s your name? How old are you?
- Let’Ss open your book page 20 and look at Unit 2, Lesson 3 (1,2,3).
II. Listen and repeat:
*Aims: Ss will be able to correctly repeat the sounds of the letters m and n
in isolation, the words Mary and Nam, and the sentences I’m Mary. and My
name’s Nam. with correct pronunciation and intonation.
*Procedure:
- T gives instruction to the letter m and n, the word Mary and Nam, and the
sentences I’m Mary. and My name’s Nam.
- Play the recording for the letter m, n
- Encourage Ss to point at the letter/ word/ sentence while listening. - Play the recording again and encourage Ss to listen and repeat.
- Do this several times until Ss feel confident.
- T calls some Ss to practice. Correct their pronunciation where necessary.
- Aks Ss can find some words with letter h and b. Feedback
*Outcome: Ss can correctly repeat the sounds of the letters m and n in
isolation, the words Mary and Nam, and the sentences I’m Mary and My name’s
Nam with correct pronunciation and intonation.
III. Listen and circle.
*Aims: Ss will be able to identify the target words Mary and Nam while
listening.
*Procedure:
- Elicit the sentences and the gap-fill options.
- T ask Ss to guess the answers and writes Ss’guessing on the board.
- Play the recording for them to listen and circle
- Play the recording again and get Ss to swap books with their partners.
- Play the recording again to check answers together as a class.
- Write the answers on the board for Ss to correct their answers. Then
checks Ss’ guessing.
- Play the recording, sentence by sentence, for the class to listen and repeat
in chorus.
- Invite one or two Ss to stand up and read the completed sentences.
- Give feedback

*Outcome: Ss can identify the words Mary and Nam while listening.
IV. Let’s chant
*Aims: Ss will be able to say the chant with the correct rhythm and
pronunciation.
*Procedure:
- Introduce the title and lyrics of the chant.
- Play the recording for Ss to listen to the whole chant.
- Have them repeat the title and lyrics line by line.
- Ask Ss to attend to the sounds of the letters m and n and the words Mary
and Nam.
- Play the recording all the way through for Ss to listen to pronunciation
and melody.
- Play the recording line by line for Ss to listen and repeat
- Play the recording for Ss to chant and clap along.
- Ask Ss to practice chant and clap along in pairs or groups.
- Invite groups to the front of the classroom to perform the chant
*Outcome: Ss can say the chant with the correct rhythm and pronunciation.

- Ask Ss to answer the following questions:

- Teacher can create a small competition for the pupils.
- Pupils work in group. Try to learn the chant by heart.
- Teacher can ask them to say the chant happily.
- The group who can perform the best is the winner.

Unit 2 in workbook.

- Make birthday cakes and use them to introduce names and ages.

- Kindness: Help partners to complete learning tasks.

C. PROCEDURE:
I. Warm up.
Game: “Chant”
*Aims: to review the vocabulary and structure about greet and respond to
greetings.
*Procedure:
- Ask Ss chant and do the actions in Unit 2, Lesson 3 page 20 in groups.
- Give point for the groups and encourage them
- Let’s open your book page 21 and look at Unit 2, Lesson 3 (4,5,6).
II. Read and match:
*Aims: Ss will be able to read and match three dialogues with pictures.
*Procedure:
- Have pupils read the first dialogue. Ask them some questions such as
Who are they? What are they talking about? Then have pupils look at the pictures and
match the dialogue with the correct one. Check their comprehension, if
necessary.
- Repeat Step 1 for Dialogues 2 and 3. Draw their attention to number eight
while saying about age. Allow pupils to do the activity independently. Go
around the class and offer help if necessary.
- Set a time limit for pupils to swap with a partner and check the answers.
- Select three pairs of pupils to read the dialogues in front of the class.

*Outcome: Ss can read and match three dialogues with pictures.
III. Let’s write.
*Aims: Ss will be able to read, understand and complete an exchange with
their personal information.
*Procedure:
- Have Ss read the dialogue and ask some questions: Who asks the
questions? What are the questions about? Who has to write the answers?
- Check their comprehension and remind Ss to write their personal
information.
- Give Ss time to write the answers to the questions independently
- Get Ss to swap books with a partner, then check the answers together as a
class.
- Ask a few Ss to stand up and role play the dialogue in front of the class.

IV. Project.
*Aims: Ss will be able to make birthday cakes and use them to introduce
names and ages
*Procedure:
- Ask Ss to make a paper birthday cake as homework at the beginning of
Unit 2 -Lesson 3 (4,5,6)
- Stick the birthday cake sample on the board and model with the name,
age.
- T asks ss to work in groups and show his / her birthday cake and say
about his / her name and age.
- T calls some Ss to the front of the class to present their cake, and saying
Hello. My name’s .
I’m .years old.
- Have Ss to stick their birthday cakes on the wall of the classroom
- Create a class display of birthday cakes and vote for the best decorated
one. - T gives feedback.
*Outcome: Pupils can say their names and ages, using birthday cakes.

*Aims: Ss will be able consolidate and wrap up the content of the lesson by
game.
*Procedure:
- T asks Ss to answer the following questions:
+ What have you learnt from the lesson today?

* Warm-up
- Have Ss brainstorm all the phrases they have learnt related to greeting,
self-introduce and leave-taking.
- Monitor the activity. Activity 1: Look, listen and repeat.
To understand and correctly repeat the sentences in two communicative
contexts (pictures) focusing on introducing someone.
– Context a: Mai: This is Mary. Mr Long: Hi, Mary.
– Context b: Mai: That’s Mr Long. Bill: Hello, Mr Long.
Pupils can understand and correctly repeat the sentences in two
communicative contexts (pictures) focusing on introducing someone
Step 1: Have pupils look at Pictures a and b and identify the characters in
the pictures.
Step 2: Ask pupils to look at Picture a. Play the recording for them to
listen. Play the recording again, sentence by sentence, for pupils to listen and
repeat. Follow the same procedure with Picture b. Correct their pronunciation
where necessary.
Step 3: Play the recording again for pupils to listen and repeat in chorus
sentence by sentence.
Step 4: Invite a few pairs to the front of the classroom to listen and repeat
the sentences in the recording.
Step 5: Draw their attention to the sentences: This is Mary. and That’s Mr
Long. Tell pupils that these sentences are used to introduce Mary and Mr Long.
Activity 2: Listen, point and say
To correctly say the character names and use This is / That’s _____. to
introduce someone.
- Picture cues:
a. Ben, a British male pupil
b. Mai, a Vietnamese female pupil
c. Mr Long, a Vietnamese male teacher
d. Ms Hoa, a Vietnamese female teacher
- Speech bubbles: This is / That’s _____.
Pupils can correctly say the character names and use This is / That’s _____.
to introduce someone.
Step 1: Have pupils look at the pictures and elicit the names of the
characters.
Step 2: Have pupils point at Picture a, listen to the recording and repeat the
word (Ben). Follow
the same procedure with the other three pictures. Have the class repeat the words
a few times.
Step 3: Point at Picture a and have pupils listen and repeat after the
recording (This is Ben). Point at Picture c and have pupils listen and repeat after
the recording (That’s Mr Long). Step 4: Have pairs practise saying This is ____. That’s ___. with Pictures b
and d.
Step 5: Invite a few pairs to point at the pictures and introduce the
characters in front of the class.
Game: Slap the board
Divide the class into four teams. Stick the pictures of activities on the
board. Teacher says a sentence, a pupil from each team has to point/ slap the
right picture and says the sentence again. The one who says faster will get
points.
Activity 3: Let’s talk
To enhance the correct use of This is / That’s _____. to introduce someone.
– Picture cue: Minh and Mai meet Bill and Mary in the school playground. Minh
introduces Bill
to Mai, then Minh introduces Mary to Mai. They greet and introduce themselves
to each other.
– Speech bubbles: This is / That's _____.
Pupils can enhance the correct use of This is / That’s . to introduce
someone.
Step 1: Draw pupils’ attention to the picture. Ask questions to help them
identify the context (see Input).
Step 2: Put pupils into groups of four and encourage them to greet and
introduce someone.
Go around the class to offer support.
Step 3: Invite some groups to the front of the class to perform their
conversations.
Game: Matching game
Using pictures and flash cards, have 3 pupils hold the pictures and 3 more
hold the sentences. Ask them to find and match. Praise the ones who finish the
matching. Then ask the class to look and say aloud.
