Lesson Plan (grade 11 – advanced) Period 74: Preparation date : 11/1/2008 Unit : 9 Lesson : Nature in Danger – comprehension Aims : By the end of the lesson, the students are able to scan reading for specific information. By the end of the lesson, the students are able to skim reading for general ideas. By the end of the lesson, the students are more aware of the need to protect nature. Lexical items : -explode - hallucinate - register - summit - deposit - junkyard Structures : Climbers also bring with them canisters containing fuel to cook their meals. Teaching aids: - textbook - picture / drawings - chalk - handouts Techniques : - Skill – based ( reading) Procedures : State/time Teacher’s and students’ activities Blackboard Materials 1. Warm-up & lead-in (5’) checking vocabulary : gap-filling - Give SS handouts and ask them to work in pairs , completing the sentences , using the words just learned. - Ask Ss to choose either a or b to complete the sentences below - Ask Ss to work with a partner and compare answers. - Call on Ss to read the statements and say their choice. Transition: to understand the lesson more clearly , today we’ll learn Comprehension of the text. - Write on the board : Checking Vocabulary: Gap- filling 1.Living in the wild, animals have to struggle for------------ 2.Dave said he would--------- to break the world record this time. 3. Pre-reading (8’) Matching pictures with tourist attractions -Tell SS to open their books to pages 126, and look at the pictures ; they are Mount Everest, the famous Ayers Rock of Australia, Yellowstone National Park, Mount Fuji National Park, Tram Chim National Park, and Phong Nha Cave ; tell SS to match them with their names. -Tell Ss these famous places are being destroyed because of tourism. -Elicit how tourism do harm to them .Tell SS to check ( ) the activeties done by tourists that can be harmful and list more. Activity 2:Questions and Answers (task b, p.128) - Ask Ss to read the passage and then choose the best title for the text. - Go around to monitor and give help if necessary -call on pairs of SS to ask and answer , and check with the class. -Go over the answers with the class Chalk + book + small board 4. Post-reading (10’) Discussion -Ask SS to work in groups of 4 or 5 , and discuss the problems in Viet Nam’s national parks and famous tourist attractions , and then suggest solutions to the problems. -Go around to control and give help if necessary. -Call on SS to report about their groups’ ideas and encourage SS to argue for or against their friends’ ideas. -Give feedback and comments on what SS have.
