Games: ‘What’s he like?’
- Divide the class into tow groups A and B.
-Show SS a picture of a person and ask them who he is. ( Appendix )
( expected : Yuri Gagarin)
-Tell the groups to write down as many sentences as possible about Yuri Gagarin – who he was, what he was like.
- The group with more correct sentences about him wins the game.
-Set a time limit and let SS start the game.
-Read the groups’sentences and check with the class
-Declare the winner
- Transition:-‘Yuri was an astronaut. What do you think an astronaut must be like? What are some requirements of astronauts?’ The listening today is about how astronauts are selected.

Brainstorming (task a, p. 194)
- Tell SS to work in small groups.
-Ask SS to read the phrases in task a and check the things that are required of astronauts.
-Ask SS to add more things that they think are required of astronauts.

Activity 1:Completing the table. ( task b, p. 194)
- tell SS they are going to listen to a talk about selection in different countries.
- Ask SS to listen and complete the table with the information about the countries.
-Let SS listen the second time if necessary.
- Ask SS to compare answers in pairs.
- Go over the answers with the class
Activity 2: Gap Questions ( task c, p. 194)
-Ask SS to listen again and complete the sentences with the correct information
-Ask Ss to work with a partner
-Call on SS to read their completed sentences.

-Arrange SS to work in pairs.
-Tell them to write a short paragraph about how astronauts were selected in the USA or Russian

-Call on some SS to read their pairs’ writings and ask the class to give correction and comments.
-Give feedback and comments on what SS have.
