Lesson Plan (grade 11 – advanced) Period 106: Preparation date : 18 /3/2008 Unit 13: Lesson : Entertainment – reading (cont) Aims : By the end of the lesson, the students are able to skim for general ideas. By the end of the lesson, the students are able to scan for specific details. Lexical items : - melting pot -world-renown -criticism - exhibition -mislead Structures : It is in its major cities that many concerts and theatrical performances are found. Many movies produced in the USA are watched nightly by millions of people both in the US and around the world. Teaching aids: - textbook - picture / drawings - chalk - handouts Techniques : - Skill – based ( reading, speaking) Procedures : State/time Teacher’s and students’ activities Blackboard Materials 1. Warm-up & lead-in (7’) Checking Vocabulary: “Rub out and remember” - rub out the words and leave the explanations on the board. - point at each explanation and have SS speak out the word - again, point at any explanation ( not in the order written on the board) and have SS to call. Transition: to understand more clearly about the text, today we’ll learn the comprehension. – Write on the board: Period 106 :Unit :13 comprehension Chalk and board. 2. Pre-reading (5’) Teaching Vocabulary - write new words on the bb. - elicit meanings from Sts or give explanations yourself - leave some minutes for Sts to copy. - give some practice on pronunciation ( T reads – Sts repeat in chorally, then asks Sts to read individually - automobile (n) : xe hoi - leisure (a): nhan roi - climate (n) khi hau - performance ( n) su thuc hien, su bieu dien - criticism (n) su chi trich - violence (n) : bao luc Chalk and board 3. while - reading (15’) Activity 1: Detailed questions: - write questions on bb - ask SS to read the text again for detailed information - SS answer the question individually - T corrects them , then SS go to bb to write down the answer Activity 3: True false or Not Mentioned (task c, p.181) -Arrange SS to work in pairs. -Ask SS to scan the text and read the statements and say if they are true, false or not mentioned in the text. -Move around to monitor unobtrusively. -Tell SS to compare answers in small groups. -Call on SS to read the statements and say their choice. -Encourage SS to give explanations for their choice -Go over the answers with the class. 1. where in USA do big entertaining activities usually happen? 2. Your favorite form of entertainment. - go around monitor and give help if necessary. - call on SS to report about their groups’ discussion and share. - give feedback and comments. . textbooks 5.
