OBJECTIVES: Teaching aims: By the end of the lesson, Ss will be able to obtain some knowledge about some scenic spots in the USA. II. PREPARATIONS: Book, cassette tape, pictures III. PROCEDURES: Teacher’s activities Students’ activities 1. Warm – Up: (5’) - Have Ss work in pairs to write as many famous places in the world as they could. Famous places 2. Pre-Reading: (10’) - Hand out photocopied pictures of some scenic spots in the USA and their corresponding paragraphs and ask students to match them correctly. - Explain vocabulary: + volcano (n) + lava (n) + valley (n) + rock (n) + overhead (adv) + (to) pour out + (to) carve (v) + prison (n) + be situated (v) + Wharf (n) - Check vocabulary: “Rub Out and Remember”. 2. While-Reading: (20’) - Ask Ss to read the texts silently to do the exercise 1. What did Mrs. Quyen do and see in each of these places? Places What she did and saw a. Hawaii b. New York c. Chicago d.
