OBJECTIVES: Teaching aims: By the end of the lesson, students will be able to write a letter to a friend about a place they have visited, develop their writing skill. II. PREPARATIONS: book III. PROCEDURES: Teacher’s activities Students’ activities 1. Warm – Up: (5’) World Heritages * Play game “Networks” 2. Pre – Writing: (15’) - Introduce the lesson: write a letter to a friend telling him or her about your last trip to a famous place. - Introduce new words: + Canyon (n) + Park ranger (n) + Guided hike (n) + Edge (n) + Original inhabitants (n) - Have students work in pairs, read the letter again and insert the sentences in the correct blank. - Call some students to give the answers in front of the class. 1. While – Writing: (20’) - Have students base on Tim’s letter , now write a letter to your friend telling him or her about your last trip to a famous place. - Ask students to work in pairs to give as much as sentences for every point of the letter as possible. - Have students collect all the suitable sentences to make their own writings. + Your letter should include : Place : Distance from your city : How to get there : Sights : Weather : How you feel : - Call some students to read their complete letter in front of the class. Dear Nam, How are you? I was very happy to get your letter. My class has just come back from a trip to Phong Nha Cave, a World Heritage Site in Central Viet Nam. It’s very far from my house. It’s over 1000 km from my house and it took us 26 hours to get there by car. We stayed in a big hotel in Quang Binh. Although it’s a summer day, it’s very cold and dark inside. The guide showed us the history of the limestone which made such magnificent caves. We took many photographs with local people there. We came back to the hotel in the afternoon. We swam in Nhat Le beach. It was really fantastic. The water is clear and the sand is smooth. We felt very happy after the trip. I enclose a photo that I took during the trip. I hope you like it.
